BEREA, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College Men's Wrestling (6-12) concluded the 2025-26 regular season with an 11
th place finish at the John Summa Invitational.
Freshman
Jayden Johnson (Keansburg, N. J./Keansburg) and junior
John Starusko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the way for the Presidents with two eighth-place finishes.
Johnson received a tough draw and fell in the main draw match to the No. 1 seed in the 197-pound bracket. In the consolation bracket, Johnson received an opening round bye. The freshman got a crucial pin against the No. 10 seed to guarantee Johnson a placement finish and points for the Presidents.
Starusko got an opening round bye as the No. 16 seed in the 165-pound bracket. In his first bout, he also received a tough draw and fell to the No. 1 seed and No. 6-ranked wrestler in Region Three. The junior battled through the consolation draw, picking up three wins by decision. In consolation round No. 3, Starusko closed the bout on a 10-1 run to upset the No. 8 seed. Starusko followed it up with a 7-0 decision to guarantee a placement finish.
Freshman
De'Mier Hamilton (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) made a quarterfinal run in the 157-pound bracket. Hamilton started the day with a 25-6 technical fall before following it up with a 9-2 pin in just under two minutes. Hamilton faced a tough opponent in the quarterfinals and ultimately fell to the No. 3 seed of the event and No. 8 regionally ranked wrestler. Hamilton got an escape in the final period to force a sudden victory overtime where his opponent got a takedown to win the consolation fourth round bout.
Senior
Holden DuBois (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) opened his day with a tough draw against the No. 1 seed and the No. 1 regionally ranked wrestler. DuBois did not let that faze him as the senior picked up two pins in under 90 seconds of his first two consolation round bouts.
Sophomore
Nathan Thomas (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) went 2-2 on the day in the 149-pound bout. Thomas picked up two major decisions throughout the bracket. In the opening round of the main draw, Thomas had three takedowns in a 10-2 win. The sophomore had three additional takedowns and a reversal during his 12-2 win in consolation round two.
The Presidents return to the mats the following weekend for the Presidents Athletic Conference Championships hosted by the Hiram Terriers. The postseason tournament will begin on Saturday (Feb. 14) at 11:00 a.m.
