Men’s Tennis Falls in Spring Opener to Ohio Wesleyan

Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team (0-4) dropped their opener on their spring break trip to Hilton Head, S. C. against the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops (4-4), 7-0.
 
The Presidents put up a fight for the first team point of the contest, ultimately falling in two of the three doubles matches to go down 1-0. Nick Bussard (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) and Jacob Bennett (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) picked up a victory at No. 3 doubles by a score of 6-1. At No. 1 doubles, Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) and Alex Duing (South Park, Pa./South Park) dropped a 6-2 decision. Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) and Nick Kubik (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) were also downed 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
 
 The Presidents were swept in singles to reach the 7-0 final score. Akers brought his No. 2 singles match to a tiebreaking first set before falling, 7-2, 6-1. Bussard worked his way to a three-set loss at No. 6 singles after winning the first set 6-2.
 
The Presidents return to action in Hilton Head on Wednesday (March 11) for a matchup with Rhodes. The men's contest is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
