Box Score HILTON HEAD, S. C. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team (0-6) fell in their final spring break trip match in Hilton Head, S. C. to the Penn State Behrend Lions (5-4), 5-2.
The Lions got out to a quick start by picking up the doubles points, 1-0. After dropping the No. 1 doubles match, the No. 3 team of
Jacob Bennett (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and
Nick Bussard (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) picked up a 6-2 victory to even the team doubles score 1-1. Penn State Behrend ultimately won the No. 2 doubles match, 6-3.
The Presidents opened the singles matches with some momentum before dropping the 5-2 decision. Despite losing the No. 2 singles match, freshman
Colby Peters (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) got the Presidents on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Bussard tacked on another win coming at No. 6 singles (6-2, 6-2) to even the team score at 2-2. The Presidents put up a fight in the final three matches, all seeing Bennett (No. 1 singles),
Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) (No. 4 singles) and
Alex Duing (South Park, Pa./South Park) (No. 3 singles) take their matches to three sets before losing in the final set.
W&J returns to Pennsylvania from their spring break trip to enter Presidents' Athletic Conference play with a road trip to Geneva on Tuesday (March 17). First serve is set for a 6:00 p.m. start in Beaver Falls.
