GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team (5-9) closes out nonconference play for the 2026 season with a 7-0 win against the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats (2-14).
The Presidents came out to a hot start in the doubles and only lost two games out of the three sets. Both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles won with a 6-1 scoreline. Senior captains
Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) and
Alex Duing (South Park, Pa./South Park) played No. 1, and juniors
Jacob Bennett (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and
Nick Bussard (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) played No. 2. Seniors
Mitch Kenney (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and
Connor Simms (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) secured the doubles sweep with a 6-0 victory at the No. 3 position.
W&J continued their strong form and took all the points in singles play. Bennett fought back from a set down to claim the No. 1 position with a 1-6, 7-5, 1-0(9) scoreline. The rest of the lineup all picked up straightforward victories. Senior captain
Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) secured a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2. Duing picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3. At No. 4, Clarke won by a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline. Additionally,
Colby Peters (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) got back to his winning ways with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 5 position. Finally, Bussard rounded out the points with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
The Presidents return to Presidents' Athletic Conference play when they travel to take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats. The push for the playoffs will continue on Monday (April 13) from Latrobe when doubles matches commence at 4:00 p.m.
