Men’s Tennis Falls to Grove City

Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team (4-9, 4-2) falls 7-0 to the Grove City Wolverines (6-3, 5-0), who are unbeaten in conference play.

The bottom of the lineup fought to get the Presidents on the board. Senior captain Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) and partner, freshman Colby Peters (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township), battled at the No. 3 doubles position but ultimately fell to a 6-4 set.

The Wolverines took all six singles matches, but the Presidents did not go down without a fight. Junior Nick Bussard (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) ultimately fell 6-0, 7-5 at No. 6 singles, but made the necessary adjustments to force an extended set in the second. Additionally, Peters battled at the No. 4 position, taking the first set 6-2. Unfortunately, the Wolverine opponent got the better of the freshman and took the final point with a 6-2, 2-6, 0-1 (9) scoreline.

The Presidents will begin a quick two-match road trip when they travel for one final non-conference matchup against the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats on Friday (April 10). Doubles matches are slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
