BRADFORD, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams swept a dual meet at Pitt-Bradford Saturday and helped Head Coach
Mike Orstein reach a major milestone with the 500th victory of his career. The Presidents' men earned a 113-78 triumph, while the women's squad collected a 117-69 win.Â
Orstein's career record now stands at 500-206-3 in 31 seasons as a collegiate head coach. Orstein has produced 440 of those victories at W&J (27 years). The 15-time PAC Swimming & Diving Coach of the year started his collegiate coaching career at York (Pa.).Â
The W&J team victories were highlighted by
Rachel Nye,
Rachel Murphy and
Ben Mancini. Nye led the 200 freestyle (1:45.13) and 200 medley (1:58.59) relays, while also winning the 50 freestyle (26.02). Mancini claimed the 500 (5:17.50) and 1000 (10:50.15) freestyles. Murphy helped Nye on the 200 medley relay and then placed first in the 200 IM (2:23.67) and 100 backstroke (1:03.68).Â
Jessica Sweitzer set a pool record during her 200 freestyte triumph (2:00.48) and
Jenny Matuszewski was victorious in the 1000 freestyle (11:38.15), while also swimming a leg on the 200 freestyle relay.Â
Laura Travers also swam on the freestyle relay after winning the 100 freestyle (58.03).Â
On the men's side,
Owen Hanna was a double winner, leading the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.88) and touching first in the 100 freestyle (50.85).Â
Chris Ratliff joined Hanna on the 200 freestyle relay and also captured the 200 freestyle (1:52.15).
Â
