Presidents drop 20-5 decision to Marlins in Virginia Beach

Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Josh Currier scored three goals and dished out six assists to lead Virginia Wesleyan past Washington & Jefferson 20-5 in men's lacrosse action Tuesday night at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

The Presidents (4-4) fell behind 13-5 at halftime and were held scoreless during the final 30 minutes.  The Marlins (5-1) scored seven goals in the final 11 minutes of the second quarter after W&J drew to within 6-4 on goals by JJ Maloney and Max Kroll. 

Casey Smallwood's goal with 8:08 left in the second quarter brought the Presidents' deficit down to 8-5, but Virginia Wesleyan scored the final 12 goals of the match, including five in the final 7:19 of the second quarter. 

Kyle Heinig and John Bursch added goals for Washington & Jefferson which was outshot by a 48-19 margin.  Conor Crowe played the first half in goal and made six saves.  Chase Bennett grabbed a team-high six ground balls. 

Nick Pappas and Mike Moran supplied four goals each for the Marlins.  VWC held a 19-8 edge advantage in faceoffs and scored on 5-of-7 extra-man opportunities.
