Susquehanna tops W&J on Senior Day 12-4

Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Susquehanna scored the first four goals of the game and never looked back in defeating Washington & Jefferson 12-4 on men's lacrosse Senior Day Saturday at Alexandre Stadium. 

The Crusaders (7-7, 3-1) opened the scoring midway through the first quarter on the first of three goals scored by Austin Lein.  Susquehanna scored three times in a little over three minutes later in the period before John Bursch netted the first W&J goal 17 seconds prior to the quarter ending.  

Adam Fox netted the lone goal of the second quarter at the 11:50 mark and SU took a 5-1 lead into halftime.  

The teams traded goals in the third quarter, but the Crusaders put the game away with three goals in the first eight minutes of the second half.  

Lein added two assists for a five-point game, while Fox also scored three times.  Three Crusader goalies combined to make 12 saves.  Susquehanna outshot W&J (5-9, 0-5) by a 39-25 margin and scored on 2-of-4 extra-man chances.  

Kyle Heinig scored two goals to lead W&J, while Bursch (1g, 1a) and Bryan Whipkey also scored.  Conor Crowe (9 saves) and Jacob Succop (5) split time in the goal.  Chase Bennett led the Presidents with seven ground balls. 

W&J plays its final regular-season home game of the spring Thursday versus Saint Vincent (7:00 pm).
