Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Third-seeded Thiel scored seven times in the first quarter and never lost the lead from that point to earn a 19-9 Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Tournament semifinal victory over second-seeded Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday night at rainy Alexandre Stadium. 

The Tomcats (8-7), who defeated W&J for the first time in five all-time meetings, advance to Saturday's PAC Championship Game against the winner of the No. 1 Saint Vincent-No. 4 Bethany match.  Thiel also avenged a 10-8 loss to the Presidents from February.

W&J grabbed a quick 2-1 lead early on after goals by Tim Angell and JJ Maloney.  However, the Tomcats scored four times in a span of less than two minutes to establish a 5-2 advantage. 

The Presidents (5-12), who claimed the inaugural PAC title last year, closed to within 9-6 late in the second quarter, but Carmen Papa's extra-man goal inside the two-minute mark gave the Tomcats a 10-6 halftime edge. 

Goals by Angell and Kyle Heinig brought W&J to within 11-8 at the 5:17 mark, but Thiel answered with the next four goals to put the game away. 

Sean Loney led the Tomcat offense with five goals and two assists, while Timothy O'Shea finished with a game-high nine points (3g, 6a).  Ryan Weldon was strong in the net with 16 saves for the Tomcats, who scored on 3-of-7 extra-man chances. 

Heinig, Angell and Bryan Whipkey all finished with two goals for W&J, while Casey Smallwood, Max Kroll and Maloney all added one.  Smallwood finished his career as the W&J games played leader (63). 
Conor Crowe made four saves in the loss in goal.
