W&J lacrosse snaps six-game skid

Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Tim Angell and Bryan Whipkey both netted three goals to help Washington & Jefferson defeat La Roche 12-8 Wednesday night in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alexandre Stadium. 

The Presidents (5-8) led 4-1 after the first quarter and held a 5-3 edge at the half.  La Roche closed to within 6-5 early in the third quarter, but Whipkey followed with a goal.  John Bursch then added a man-down goal to up the lead back to three. 

The Redhawks (2-7) closed to within two goals twice in the fourth quarter, but W&J had the answer each time and Kyle Heinig and Whipkey scored goals during the final seven minutes to put the game away. 

Angell and Whipkey both dished out one assist for four-point game, while Max Kroll also tallied four points with two goals and two assists.  Casey Smallwood (2g, 1a) and Kyle Heinig (1g, 2a) delivered three-point nights.  Conor Crowe played the first half in goal and made six saves, while Jacob Succop stopped seven shots in the second half. 

La Roche, which held a 51-40 edge in shots, was led by Dustin Reykdal's three goals and one assist.

W&J hosts Susquehanna Saturday on Senior Day at noon.
