Women's Soccer falls at No. 6 Carnegie Mellon, 6-2

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team scored more goals on No. 6 Carnegie Mellon than the Tartans other opponents combined this season,but it wasn't enough as W&J fell, 6-2.

With the loss, the Presidents fall to 0-3 to open the 2014 campaign. Carnegie Mellon, who is ranked No. 6 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 poll, improves to 5-0. The Tartans had allowed just one goal in four previous games entering Friday night.

The hosts opened up a 3-0 lead through the first 45 minutes of play and eventually built the lead to 5-0 in the 53rd minute.

Tatiana Ruzzini put W&J on the board at the 59:53-mark with the first goal of her collegiate career after she won the ball off the defender and scored inside of the near post.

Just under 10 minutes later, Ruzzini assisted on Mariah Lockard's second goal of the season after Lockard ran down the pass and chipped it over the charging keeper.

Morgan Kinyon suffered the defeat,making six saves in 90 minutes in goal.

W&J has a quick turnaround as the Presidents are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 14 with another non-conference match, this time at Pitt-Greensburg at 3 p.m.
