Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- In its final game as a member of the Landmark Conference, the Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-3 decision to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Senior Day at Alexandre Stadium.
With the win, the Presidents finish the regular season with an 8-8 record, matching the single-season program record for wins, despite a 1-6 showing in conference matches. Merchant Marine sees its season come to an end with a 7-7 mark, 3-4 in the league.
The guests led, 2-1, through the first 15 minutes, with
Zachary Fredericks finding the back of the net 10:59 into the game for W&J. A goal by Kyle Heining at the 10:56-mark of the second quarter made it 3-2, but the Mariners scored the next six goals to open up a 9-2 lead.
John Bursch ended the run with his ninth goal of the season with 3:46 to play in the third period. The fourth quarter was all USMMA, as they outscored W&J, 7-0.
Bursch recorded a goal and an assist on Senior Day, while Fredericks and Heinig both paced the Presidents with nine shots apiece.
Chase Bennett corralled seven ground balls and caused three turnovers, both team-highs.
Jacob Succop suffered the loss despite making 20 saves in 50:35.
Conor Crowe and
Nate Rattner both saw time in cage during the fourth quarter.
