WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson wrestling team battled Waynesburg to the very end but were unable to pull out a victory in a 24-21 road loss on Wednesday night in Waynesburg, Pa.

The Presidents drop to 6-4 on the season in dual matches, splitting the two PAC bouts on the schedule. After tonight, the Yellow Jackets improve to 6-7 overall in their first PAC match.

Leading the way for the Red & Black tonight was
Manny Dovshek (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth),
Michael Heinl (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) and
Jared Walker (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette), as all three earned extra points in their matches.

Dovshek logged a first-period pin (1:20) over Waynesburg's Dylan Williams at 125 pounds. The fall victory is his team-leading 14th of the year, the ninth-most single-season pins in program history.

Heinl was next with a tech fall (19-2) over Jaeden Gordon in 4:47 to earn W&J five points. The 10th-ranked 149-pound grappler, according to d3wrestle.com, improved to 27-3 on the year.

At 165 pounds, Walker posted a 12-4 major decision over Dan Verhovsek. The junior from McDonald, Pa. is now 21-2 on the season, trailing just Heinl and
Hunter Neely (Cokeburg, Pa./Bentworth) (23) for the most wins on the team.

Also notching victories tonight were
Jaden Datz (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Southmoreland) and
Alex Miller (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend). Datz topped Waynesburg's Tony Welsh by a tight 3-2 decision at 174 pounds, while Miller bested Mike Mahon (8-5) at 184 pounds.

The Red & Black will return to the mats on Sunday, Jan. 27, when they will take part in the Jamestown Community College Open.
