YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson indoor track & field teams competed in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships at Youngstown State University Thursday afternoon. The women were in a tight battle for first before finishing third place with a final team score of 103. The men finished in fifth with a team score of 70.5
Men
Declan Fricko (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank Valley) started the Presidents off strong, taking home the gold for W&J in the first event of the afternoon, the men's high jump. Fricko's jump of 1.91 meters landed him the top spot at the Championships and a new W&J school record.
Teammate
Nate Sciarro (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) finished fourth with a jump of 1.86 meters. Sciarro then went on to claim another first place for the Presidents in the long jump with his leap of 6.99 meters.
Julian Paul (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) placed second in the mile clocking in a 4:30.07.
Aden Dressler (Evans City, Pa./Butler) finished fourth with a 4:30.30 while
Jake Sinclair (Beallsville, Pa./Beth-Center) placed eighth with a 4:35.00. Paul then went on to claim second in the 800 meter run (2:00.15) while
Clay Yeager (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) and Dressler finished in seventh and eighth, respectively.
Sinclair finished in sixth in the 3000 meters with his time of 9:09.69.
Ian Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles finishing in 8.79 seconds.
Paul Collier (Heath, Ohio/Heath) represented W&J on the PAC Sportsmanship Team.
Women
Savannah Sevacko (Crafton, Pa./Carlynton) won the triple jump with her leap of 10.56 meters while
Jadyn Hartner (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) finished in second with her mark of 10.06 meters. Sevacko then went on and placed second in the women long jump with her leap of 5.10 meters while Hartner finished fourth with her mark of 4.95 meters. Hartner also placed fourth in the high jump with her jump of 1.40 meters and sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with her time of 10.44 seconds.
Bre Trusler (Daisytown, Pa./California) won the 400 meter dash by more than a second and a half, posting a 1:00.81. Trusler also qualified for finals in the 60 meter dash, placing eighth with her time of 8.99 seconds and fourth in the 200 meter dash (27.68).
Faith Remich (New Kensington, Pa./Burrell) placed second in the one mile clocking in a time of 5:22.26 and fifth in the 800 meter run (2:26.45) to close out her collegiate indoor track career.
Cassie Carr (Girard, Pa./Girard) finished in third place in the 3000 meters with her time of 10:50.32 while
Anna Stroup (Port Royal, Pa./Juniata) finished third in the 60 meter hurdles (9.60 seconds). Carr also placed fourth in the 5000 meter clocking in a 19.44.47.
Hartner and Sciarro earned PAC Newcomers of the Year for their respective performances. Additionally, Hartner was named on the PAC Sportsmanship for the second year in a row.
