WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving team recorded 12 first place finishes Saturday in the conference home meet versus Westminster College at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.
Reigning PAC Swimmer of the Week
Logan Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) recorded three place finishes Saturday. He had a winning time of 1:00.70 in the 100 Breaststroke. Marks also swam to a top time of 2:15.92 in the 200 Breaststroke. He capped his day with a first-place time of 2:09.09 in the 200 IM.
Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) posted a first-place finish in the 1000 Free. Miller touched the wall with a time of 11:13.41 in his season debut. Miller added a runner-up finish in the 100 Free with a time of 54.54.
Daniel Jeffries (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area) eased his way to first place finish in the 100 Back with a time of 58.50. Jeffries was runner-up in the 200 Back at 2:12.99.
In his collegiate swimming debut, two-sport athlete
Aiden Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) finished second in the 50 Free (23.97).
In the 200 Fly,
Nathaniel Harden (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) finished second at 1:01.01.
Melvin McRae (Lillington, N.C./Overhills) finished in first place in both the one-meter dives and three-meter dives. McRae registered a score of 174.70 in the one-meter dives and a score of 167.15 in the three meters.
Will Angus (Grafton, W.Va./Grafton) was second in both, with scores of 169.45 in the one-meter and 157.35 in the three-meter.
The W&J women opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of
Amanda Graves (Irwin, Pa. / Penn Trafford),
Rylee Mitchell (Milan, Mich. / Milan),
Luna Balzano (El Portal, Fla. / Broward Virtual School) and
Maddie Malone (Charlottesville, Va. / Monticello) logged a time of 2:02.50.
Graves was first in the 100 Back. The senior posted a winning time of 1:07.60.
Balzano continued her impressive freshman season with two more first place finishes. She logged a time of 2:27.77 in the 200 Fly and a winning mark of 1:04.10 in the 100 Fly.
Mitchell touched the wall first in the 100 Breaststroke. The freshman had a top time of 1:16.38 in the event.
Sophia Garrett (Cincinnati, Ohio / Saint Ursula Academy) was first in the 200 Back with a time of 2:21.38. Garrett also recorded times of 2:14.01 in the 200 Free and 27.47 in the 50 Free to finish third.
Morgan Baughman (West Newton, Pa. / Mount Pleasant) was second in both the 50 Free (27.05) and 100 Free (59.93).
Malone finished first in the 200 IM (2:31.04) and as the runner up in the 200 Breaststroke (2:47.07).
Taylor Newton (Olyphant, Pa. / Scranton Prep) finished second in the 1000 Free (12:14.65) and in the 500 Free (5:54.90).
Isabella Valentin-Montero (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) was third in the 100 Back at 1:09.27.
W&J dropped both meets in terms of team scoring. The men fell by a 173-118 count while the women were topped 184-100 tally.
The Presidents return to action on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
