Penn State Behrend downs W&J Men's Tennis in spring opener

ERIE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team dropped their first match of the spring season by a 7-2 margin to host Penn State Behrend Saturday. 

W&J dropped two of the three doubles matches. The Presidents lone win in the doubles category was a tight victory by the freshman Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va. / Logan) and Connor Simms (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon McMillan) who picked up an 8-7 win over Mitchell May and Cody Jaconski at the second doubles slot.

The sole win for the Presidents in singles was by Simms in a tiebreaker in the sixth spot. Simms won by a 6-3 score in the first set against Chris Pham of the Lions. Pham then took the second set by a 6-4 margin. Simms edged Pham by an 11-9 score in the third set tiebreaker. 

W&J travels to Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday, March 4. First Serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
