Box Score WASHINGTON Pa. - The Washington and Jefferson College men's tennis team took down Franciscan by a 7-2 in a non-conference match at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
The win improves the Presidents to 1-1 on the season.The Barons drop to 0-2 during the fall season.
W&J took two of the three doubles matches and five of six singles contests en route to the victory.
After Franciscan claimed the first doubles match, Alex Duing (South Park/Pa. South Park) and Nick Bussard (New Kensington/Pa. Valley) responded with an 8-4 victory at second doubles. Connor Simms (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) and Mitch Kenney (North Huntingdon/Pa. Norwin) escaped with an 8-6 win at third doubles.
Jesús Garcia (Seville/Spain Universidad Pablo De Olavide) won by a 6-1, 6-1 score at the top singles spot before Franciscan took the second singles in three sets.
The Presidents won each of the singles matches at the three, four, five and six spots.
Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va/Logan) picked up a win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, at third singles. Duing won by a 7-5, 6-1 score at fourth singles. To finish out the singles play, Bussard and Abhinav Yarramaneni (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) breezed through the last two matchups coming in with scores of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively.
The Presidents will be back in action on Saturday, October 7th when they host Baldwin Wallace at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
