WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College Swimming & Diving teams faced off with their first PAC opponent of the season in Westminster. The W&J men won a 153-137 decision, while the W&J women dropped their bout, 153-119.
The W&J men were led by freshman
March Yuan (Simi Valley, Calif./Oak Park). Yuan picked up three wins for the Presidents starting in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.06. In the 100-yard butterfly, Yuan won with a pace of 56.07. In his final first-place finish of the afternoon in the 20-yard IM, he posted a time of 2:03.35.
Zach Lloyd (Dillsburg, Pa./Lloyd Academy (Homeschooled)) picked up two first-place finishes off the diving board. Lloyd took first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 229.50 and first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 213.25.
Nathaniel Harden (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) posted a first-place finish in the 100-breaststroke with a mark of 1:04.76.
Daniel Jeffries (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area) added a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.26. He also tacked on a second-place finish in the 100-backstroke with a time of 57.12.
Logan Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) also posted a first- and second-place finish. Marks won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.08 and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a pace of 1:55.80.
Freshman
Aiden Filer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) posted a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 54.06. He also recorded a second-place mark in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.81.
In the relays, the relay unit of Jeffries, Marks, Yuan and Filer finished first with a time of 1:42.12 In the 200-yard medley relay. The quad of
Micah Lohr (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), Filer, Marks and Jeffries won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:33.36.
For the W&J women,
Maddie Malone (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) headed the Presidents' efforts in the lanes. Malone logged first-place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:45.26 and in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:33.46. Malone also tacked on a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.60.
Luna Balzano (El Portal, Fla./Broward Virtual School) logged two first-place marks in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.64 and in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:26.79.
Sophia Garrett (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.12. The second-year swimmer also added a second-place finish in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:23.25.
Senior
Taylor Newton (Olyphant, Pa./Scranton Prep) won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:58.73. She also registered a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:58.03.
The Presidents swept the relays with two first-place finishes. In the 200-yard medley relay, the unit of Garrett, Malone, Balzano and Baughman finished with a time of 1:59.92.
The quad of Garrett, Balzano, Newton and
Audrey Kough (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:13.78.
The Presidents return home this week to face off with Chatham on Saturday (Nov. 2). Events are scheduled to commence at 1:00 p.m.
