CANTON, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College Swimming & Diving teams opened up competition in their largest invite of the season thus far at the Malone Invitational. After two days, the men hold seventh place while the women have advanced to 11
th.
The W&J men were led by captain
Logan Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin). Marks registered the Presidents' best finish thus far in the invite, with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.70. He also logged a 15
th-place mark in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:03.92.
Freshman
Zach Lloyd (Dillsburg, Pa./Lloyd Academy (Homeschooled)) logged a second-place finish in the 1-meter dive with a total score of 392.30.
Melvin McRae (Lillington, N.C./Overhills) backed Lloyd's efforts with a sixth-place finish and score of 232.30 in the 1-meter dive as well.
Fellow freshman
March Yuan (Simi Valley, Calif./Oak Park) posted another decorated two-day span in the pool. Yuan collected fifth in the 400-yard IM with a mark of 4:12.89. He also finished tied for 10
th in the 200-yard IM racing to a 1:59.22 mark.
Nathaniel Harden (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) took 11
th in the 100-yard breaststroke behind Marks with a pace of 59.60.
Perry Barnhart (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) capped the top individual finishes for the men with a 14
th-place mark in the 400-yard IM and time of 4:49.79.
In the relay, the unit of
Daniel Jeffries (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area), L. Marks, Yuan and
Aiden Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) collected a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:38.85 in the 400-yard medley relay.
The quad of Jeffries, L. Marks,
Micah Lohr (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and A. Marks finished sixth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.09.
The W&J women were headed by Freshman diver
Amiyah White (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area). White posted a sixth-place finish in the 1-meter dive with a score of 251.95. Fellow freshman diver
Caitlin Wiltsey (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) took 10
th in the 1-meter dive with a score of 196.00.
Luna Balzano (El Portal, Fla./Broward Virtual School) continues to produce for the Presidents in the short-distance events. Balzano finished ninth in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:01.49. She also tacked on a 15
th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.83.
Maddie Malone (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) took a finals finish in the 400-yard IM with a mark of 5:11.21 to take 11
th.
Sophia Garrett (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) snagged two top finishes for the Presidents. Garrett took 14
th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.41 and 23
rd in the 200-yard IM with a mark of 2:25.44.
Morgan Baughman (West Newton, Pa./Mount Pleasant) rounded out W&J's top finishers in the individual events. Baughman raced to 20
th in the 50-yard freestyle with a 25.91 final time.
Relay units in the 200- and 400-yard medley relay each took 10
thwith respective time of 1:56.58 and 4:23.24. Both units included Garrett, Malone, Balzano and Baughman.
The Presidents remain in Canton, Ohio for the final day of the Malone Invitational. Prelims are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
