WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Sophomore
Vitali Daniels (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth) led the Washington & Jefferson College men's wrestling with a runner-up finish in the 184-pound waitlist at the Ned McGinley Invitational (Nov. 1).
Daniels finished 4-1 at the event, coming in as the No. 7 seed. He opened the tournament with a 21-5 fall and a 13-3 major decision in the second round. Daniels then followed that up with a 10-2 major decision against the No. 2 seed in the weight class. In the semifinals, Daniels defeated the No. 6 seed by a 5-1 decision. Daniels was defeated in the 184-pound finals to the No. 5 seed by 6-2 decision.
Junior
Brandon Dami (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) was the other wrestler who placed for W&J. Dami finished the day with a sixth-place finish and a 3-2 record. He opened the day with two shutout tech falls, including a 15-0 win over the No. 2 seed. Dami was downed in the quarterfinals to the No. 2 seed but picked up two wins in the consolation bracket to secure a spot in the fifth-place match.
Freshman
De'Mier Hamilton (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) picked up his first collegiate wins with a 3-2 record within the 165-pound at the event. Fellow Freshmen
Jack Viti (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and
Jayden Johnson (Keansburg, N. J./Keansburg) each collected their first collegiate victories as well.
Senior
Holden DuBois (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) finished 2-1 at the event in the 125-pound weight class. His one loss was against teammate Dami.
The Presidents return for their home opener on Wednesday (Nov. 5). The dual will commence against Presidents' Athletic Conference opponent Saint Vincent at 7:00 p.m.
