Men’s Wrestling Wraps Competition at Behrend Duals

ERIE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's wrestling team (1-4) dropped three matches at the Behrend Duals. The Presidents fell 39-17 to the Penn State Behrend Lions (2-1), 44-14 to the RIT Tigers (3-1), and 35-14 to the Lycoming Warriors (2-1).
 
W&J 17, Penn State Behrend 39
Junior Brandon Dami (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) started the dual off strong with a win by pinfall in the 125-pound weight class to give the Presidents an early lead.
 
The hosts won the next two bouts before senior Bryce Rodriguez-Uram (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) went on to win the 149-pound bout with a pinfall. Junior Vitali Daniels (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth) wrapped up the scoring for the Presidents with a 15-0 tech fall in the 184-pound bout.
 
W&J 14, RIT 44
Freshman Zander Tompkins (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) got the Presidents on the board with an 11-10 decision to kick off the dual. The Tigers went on to take the next six bouts to take a significant lead in the dual.
 
W&J would win two of the last three matches to get some more points on the board. Daniels his second 15-0 technical fall of the day in the 184-pound match. Freshman Jack Viti (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) would go on to win the 197-pound match as well.
 
W&J 14, Lycoming 35
Dami got the call again in the 125-pound bout and won a hard-fought 8-5 decision to open the dual. The Warriors got the next two matches before Rodriguez-Uram had a 19-4 technical fall to keep the Presidents in it.
 
The Warriors extended their lead by winning the next matches. Similar to the previous dual, W&J won two out of the last three matches with Daniels remaining unbeaten on the day with an 8-5 decision and Viti had a 10-7 win in their respective weight classes.
 
The Presidents return in a week when they travel to Allentown, Pa. for the Scotty Wood Invitational. The event hosted by Muhlenberg will begin at 10:00 a.m.
