ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Five wrestlers from the Washington & Jefferson College wrestling team placed at the Scotty Wood Invite hosted by Muhlenberg. The team wrestled their way to a fifth place finish out of nine teams.

Vitali Daniels (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth) led the Presidents with a third-place finish in the 184-pound weight class, Daniels defeated a wrestler from the hosts by a 19-4 tech fall. He fell to a Messiah wrestler by a 7-1 decision. Daniels won the consolation bracket with two wins by fall, the first in 20 seconds and the second at the 2:13 mark.

Two Presidents placed fifth at the event. Freshman Zander Tompkins (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) fell in the opening round of the 184-pound weight class to a wrestler from Messiah. Tompkins won three consolation bouts in a row before falling to teammate Daniels. Tompkins redeemed himself by winning the fifth-place bout.

Junior Jaden Fields (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) started the event off with a 7-0 fall at the 55 second mark. He fell in the quarterfinals of the 197-pound bracket but would rack up two technical falls in the first two consolation matches. Field fell to a 10-3 decision but won by a 6-0 scoreline to take fifth place.

Additionally, a pair of freshmen placed sixth in their respective weight classes. Vince Coleman (Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville) won a tight 5-2 decision in the 125-pound weight class before falling in the semifinals to a wrestler from Elizabethtown. Coleman fell in two tight consolation bouts to place sixth.

De'Mier Hamilton (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) started the day off with a 6-1 fall in the round of 16 and an 18-9 major decision. Hamilton ultimately had to withdraw in the semifinals of the 165-pound weight class but still put together a strong performance worthy of a placement spot earning points for the Presidents.

Logan Rumberger (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) also picked up his first collegiate victory as a President by pinfall.

The Presidents return to action on Thursday (Dec. 4) when they host a dual against fellow PAC opponent Waynesburg. The dual will commence at 6:15 p.m. in the Salvetti Family Gymnasium.
