GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams completed their first night of action at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Grove City College. The men wrapped day one in second place while the women rest in seventh.
The Men's 200-yard medley relay headlined the opening night of the conference tournament with a historic performance. The unit of
Ethan Glessner (McKeesport, Pa./Elizabeth Forward),
Logan Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin),
Brian Lowry (Wenonah, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) and
Aiden Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) broke the W&J record in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:34.91. The record was held and established for the past nine years and was bested by 0.66 seconds.
The W&J men also placed second in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The team of
March Yuan (Simi Valley, Calif./Oak Park),
Daniel Jeffries (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area),
Micah Lohr (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and
Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) paced their way to a time of 7:18.61 and a podium finish.
Highlighting the W&J women was the team of
Sophia Garrett (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy),
Maddie Malone (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello),
Luna Balzano (El Portal, Fla./Broward Virtual School) and
Morgan Baughman (West Newton, Pa./Mount Pleasant) in the 200-yard medley relay. The unit placed third with a time of 1:53.58.
In the 800-yard medley relay, the squad of Malone,
Taylor Newton (Olyphant, Pa./Scranton Prep),
Sophie Talamonti (Flushing, Ohio/Union Local) and
Audrey Kough (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) finished seventh with a time of 9:09.02.
The Presidents swimming & diving teams return to action for in the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool Thursday (Feb. 20). Preliminary events are scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m.
