Balzano Highlights Day Three of PAC Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams concluded day three of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Grove City College. The W&J men currently rest in second-place with 426 team points, while the W&J women remain in sixth with 234 team points.
 
For a second-consecutive night, sophomore swimmer Luna Balzano (El Portal, Fla./Broward Virtual School) headlined the W&J women. Balzono raced to a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.72.
 
Freshman diver Amiyah White (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) finished in second place with a total score of 282.05 in her first appearance at the conference championships.
 
The unit of Sophia Garrett (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy), Taylor Newton (Olyphant, Pa./Scranton Prep), Morgan Baughman (West Newton, Pa./Mount Pleasant) and Balzano took another top finish in the relay events. The group finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.20.
 
Garrett logged her first individual podium appearance of the conference championships thus far. Garrett placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.07.
 
Logan Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) headed the W&J men with a top-three placement. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Marks placed third with a time of 56.37. Teammate Nathaniel Harden (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) finished close behind in fifth with a mark of 59.38.
 
Freshman Ethan Glessner (McKeesport, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) worked his way to a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.06. Daniel Jeffries (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area) followed up with a seventh-place mark in the 100 back with a time of 55.85.
 
The squad consisting of Aiden Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin), Jeffries, Brian Lowry (Wenonah, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) and L. Marks finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay after racing to a time of 1:27.55.
 
Freshman swimmer March Yuan (Simi Valley, Calif./Oak Park) continued his decorated first-season campaign with another podium finish. In the 400-yard IM, Yuan swam to a fourth-place finish and time of 4:13.66.
 
The Presidents return to the lanes of James E. Longnecker Competition Pool for the final day of the PAC Championships, Saturday (Feb. 22). Preliminary events are scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m.
