WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's wrestling (5-9) went 1-2 on senior day while also hosting the annual Jim White Duals. The Presidents fell 26-24 to the Mount St. Joseph Lions (3-7) and 32-21 to the Wilmington Quakers (4-10) before defeating the Hiram Terriers (1-6) 31-21.
W&J 24, Mount St. Joseph 26
Senior
Holden DuBois (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) set the tone for the Presidents with a victory by pinfall in the second period of the opening 125-pound match.
The Lions settled in and took the next three weight classes before sophomore
Jackson Sandor (Apollo, Pa./The Kiski School) and junior captain
Jiovanni DeChicchis (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) closed the gap down to 17-15. Sandor earned a pin in the third period of the 157-pound bout. Additionally, DeChicchis wrestled to a hard fought 4-0 decision in the 165-pound match.
In a bout that needed an extra period, sophomore
Will Domico (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) ultimately fell in a tight 9-6 battle at 174-pounds. Sophomore
Vitali Daniels (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth) and Freshman
Jack Viti (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) got the lead back for the Presidents. Daniels had an early pin in the second period while Viti went the distance and won by a 7-0 decision. W&J went on to fall in the heavyweight bout, which gave Mount St. Joseph the win 26-24.
W&J 21, Wilmington 32
Holden DuBois (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) picked up where he left off and got another pin to get the Presidents on the board first. Wilmington reclaimed the lead 12-6 by winning the next two weight classes. Senior
Bryce Rodriguez-Uram (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) went the distance and won a tight 11-9 decision at the 149-pound match.
The two teams went back and forth in the next three contests. Freshman
De'Mier Hamilton (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) got the win with a pin at the 165-pound weight class to keep the Presidents close. The Quakers went on to win the final two contested matches and took the overall dual, 32-21.
W&J 31, Hiram 21
The Terriers got the first points in the Presidents' Athletic Conference dual to close out the 2026 Jim White Duals. W&J continued to fight and went on to win the next three weight classes to get on the board with a 16-6 advantage. Freshman
Drake Buzzard (Avella, Pa./Avella Area) got his first win of the day with a pin within the first two minutes of the 141-pound bout. Additionally,
Bryce Rodriguez-Uram (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) expanded the momentum in the Presidents' favor with a 13-4 major decision at the 149-pound weight class.
The Terriers did not go away easily, winning two out to the three following weight classes.
Jiovanni DeChicchis (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) wrestled a hard-fought 5-1 decision with a takedown in the final period to give him the win in the 165-pound match.
Junior
Jaden Fields (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) clinched the overall win for the Presidents with a pin just under two minutes into the 197-pound match. Hiram closed the gap in the heavyweight bout, but it was not enough as the Presidents went on to take the overall dual win 31-21.
W&J has a short break before returning to the mats on Friday (Jan. 23) when they travel to take on the Case Western Reserve Spartans. The dual will commence at 7:00 p.m. from Cleveland.
