STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's golf team won its first tournament of the 2025-26 season at the Pennsylvania Classic hosted at Division I Penn State University. The W&J men's golf team posted a team score of 601 through 36 holes.

W&J: 1st of 22
Top W&J Individual: Matthew Morelli (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) finished the weekend as W&J's top golfer, taking third overall. After an opening round score of 76 left the sophomore in 10
th place, Morelli climbed the ranks with a round two score of 70. His complete invitational tally of 146 was five shots off the top golfer and one shot off of the runner up.
Notables: Luke Eckmann (Clancy, Mont./Jefferson) finished as the next best golfer for the Presidents, in a four-way tie for 10
th place. Eckmann shot a 151on the weekend with a round low of 74 on day two.
Davis Kittsley (Fox Chapel, Pa./Fox Chapel) finished in a three-way tie for 14
th place, having shot a 152 over the course of two rounds. Kittsley drastically improved his round one score of an 81 to a 71 on the closing day of the classic.
Ryan Steigerwald (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) and
William Ainsworth (Woldingham, Surrey/Reigate Grammar School) each rounded out the top finishing golfers for W&J with a tournament score of 155 to finish in a 10-way tie for 24
th.
Tournament Highlights
Top Team: W&J picked up its first tournament victory of the season, passing host Penn State Altoona and Mount Aloysius on day two. All five of the Presidents golfers exponentially improved in the second round of the Pennsylvania Classic. As a team, W&J shot one under par on the second day.
Top Individual: Christopher Hoffman of Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Allegheny took the individual victory at the Pennsylvania Classic. Hoffman shot three under par on the weekend, with a round best coming on day two with a score of 70.
Up Next: The Presidents return to the course on Monday (April 6) to compete in the Thiel Spring Invitational.
