FULL RESULTSWASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents women posted a 113-86 victory while the men dropped a 106-92 decision in the 2014-15 swimming and diving home opener against West Virginia Wesleyan.
The Washington & Jefferson women's swimming and diving team remains a perfect 4-0 thus far this season while the men drop to 2-1. The men's team overcame a large part of their team being at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Championships being held at Princeton this weekend.
Jessica Sweitzer won both the 100 (55.39) and 200 (2:00.06) freestyle events for the third-straight meet to open the season.
Rachel Murphy picked up a pair of victories as well, timing at 2:18.30 in the 200 backstroke and 2:20.12 in the 200 individual medley.
Other winners on the women's side included
Amber Miller in the 1000 freestyle (11:38.86),
Jenny Matuszewski in the 500 free (5:36.80) and
Rachel Nye in the 50 freestyle (25.77). The 200 free relay of
Madison Babicka,
Laura Travers, Nye and Sweitzer posted the fastest time at 1:41.99 in exhibition scoring.
For the men,
Chris Ratliff notched victories in the 1000 freestyle by 38 seconds at 11:03.24 and the 500 free in 5:16.14.
Owen Hanna also picked up a pair of wins, touching the wall first in the 200 free (1:52.93) and 100 free (50.77).
The 200 free relay consisting of
Ben Henrichs, Hanna,
Matt Noel and Ratliff earned a four-second victory in 1:31.21.
W&J also competed in diving exhibitions with
Jennifer Suder scoring 230.35 in the one-meter and 245.80 in the three-meter, while
Haley Ashner recorded a 209.25 one-meter score and a 205.85 in the three-meter. For the men,
Josh Vasko posted a 260.90 in the one-meter and 216.40 in the three-meter.
The Presidents return to action on Wednesday hosting Westminster in Presidents' Athletic Conference action starting at 6 p.m.
