NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Thanks to three top-four finishers, the Washington & Jefferson women's golf team claimed the 2014 Presidents' Athletic Conference Fall Championship at New Castle Country Club.
The Presidents (377-367-744) won by a whopping 63 strokes over second-place Westminster (414-393-807) to claim their first fall title since 2012. Defending champion Grove City finished third at 809, while Thomas More (821) and Saint Vincent (847) rounded out the top five squads. Individual medalist honors went to Grove City's Esther Durling for the fourth time in her career as she carded a 175 (89-86).
Marissa Sudar and
Jennifer Suder tied for second to pace W&J. After a 95 on Monday afternoon, Sudar shot the lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday with an 85 to finish with a 185, five strokes back. Suder was the model of consistency, carding a 90 on both days.
Amanda Halula finished fourth in her first tournament of the year, carding a 185 (95-90), placing 10 strokes off the lead.
Allison Vargo was five strokes behind her, tallying a 190 (95-95) to tie for sixth.
Michelle Klein tied for eighth at 196 (99-97) while
Kaitlyn Vogel rounded out the Presidents competing with a 10th-place finish and 197 score (97-100).
The Presidents hold a 63-stroke lead entering the 2015 PAC Spring Championship for the league crown. The school with the lowest team score over the 72 holes of both seasons earns the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championships.
