GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson wrestling team posted a 1-2 showing at the East/West Duals hosted by Messiah.
The Presidents dropped the opener against the host No. 8 Falcons, 41-9, before falling against No. 30 York (Pa.), 29-17. W&J closed out the event with a 25-19 win against Elizabethtown.
Jacob Spearman picked up the lone victory against Messiah, winning via fall in 1:51 at 133.
W&J claimed three victories against York.
Todd Meyers won via fall at 149 to begin the victories for the Presidents. Consensus No. 1
Nick Carr posted a 7-1 decision at 157 and
Sonnieboy Blanco claimed a 14-6 major decision at 174.
In the Elizabethtown dual, Spearman earned another pin at the 2:57-mark to send W&J ahead in the match, 6-4. At 157, Carr earned a major decision, 16-4 to set off three-straight wins for the Presidents.
Declan Haggerty and Blanco also earned major decisions, 10-2 and 21-9, respectively.
William Oberschelp picked up a 6-4 decision at 197 and then
Antonio Santoro won the heavyweight class by an 11-3 major decision.
W&J returns to the mat on Wednesday, Jan. 21, traveling to Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Waynesburg for a 7 p.m. dual meet.
