FULL RESULTSWAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Presidents led the majority of the way but were unable to hold off a comeback by No. 23 Waynesburg in a 22-17 Presidents' Athletic Conference loss.
With the loss, the Washington & Jefferson wrestling team drops to 2-10 in dual meets this season and 0-1 in the PAC. Waynesburg improves to 15-6 and 1-0.
W&J opened up with a 9-0 lead after posting decisions in the first three weight classes of the evening.
In his Presidents' debut,
Seth Carr earned a 6-2 decision at 125. Carr, the younger brother of 157 No. 1
Nick Carr, transferred from Clarion, who competes at the NCAA Division I level in wrestling.
Jacob Spearman then posted a 5-3 decision at 133 before
Daniel Pommerer brought home a 12-8 decision at 141.
Waynesburg got on the board with a major decision at 149, but
Nick Carr remained undefeated with an 18-4 major decision at 157 to push the W&J lead out to 13-4.
The Jackets earned a pin at 165, but
Sonnieboy Blanco responded with an 18-4 major decision at 174 to make it 17-10.
Waynesburg earned the final 12 points of the meet, beginning with a narrow, 6-5, win at 184, a forfeit at 197 and a 4-2 overtime win at 285.
W&J hosts Case Western Reserve on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Henry Memorial Gymnasium for the first of two-consecutive home dual meets.
