GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson wrestling team suffered a 22-18 setback against Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Beeghly Gymnasium on Thiel's campus.

The loss ends the PAC slate for the Presidents at an 0-2 record after dropping dual matches to Waynesburg and Thiel by a combined five points.

After W&J fell behind, 10-0, through two weight classes after starting at 157 pounds, Sonnieboy Blanco got the Presidents on the board with a pin of Thiel Brett Beltz in 4:23, bringing W&J within 10-6.

The Tomcats took a decision at 184 before the Presidents earned a pair of victories in the two highest weight classes. Ezekiel Stroupe scored an 8-3 decision at 197 and Nicholas Kumburis earned a 4-2 win at heavyweight and the match stood at 13-12, Thiel advantage, 60 percent of the way through the match.

A flip back to 125 brought a 4-2 decision in favor of Jacob Spearman and a 15-13 Presidents' advantage. Thiel, however, secured a pin and decision at 133 and 141, respectively, to hold a 22-15 lead heading to the final weight class, which resulted in a 12-9 decision at 149 in favor of W&J's Trevor Meyers.

The Presidents will be back on the mat on Saturday, Jan. 23 when they travel to Case Western Reserve, where they will wrestle a pair of duals against the Spartans and Muskingum.
