Bonus points help W&J take down Thiel, 28-21

How it Happened: Washington & Jefferson used bonus points in four of its six victories to defeat Thiel for the first time since earning a 21-17 win in Greenville on Feb. 5, 2010 as W&J closed out Presidents' Athletic Conference dual-meet action with a 2-1 record while improving to 4-3 overall with a 28-21 win at home.
 
Top Performers: Michael Heinl (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) brought W&J back from a 12-0 early deficit at 141 pounds when he pinned Justin Walter in 2:18. At 149, Sam Florentino (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) shortened the margin to 12-10 with a 13-2 major decision over Vincent Mion, fueled by a riding time bonus point. W&J scored six points at 157 pounds when Hunter Neely (Cokeburg, Pa./Bentworth) was victorious by injury default at 1:06 against Austin Bonacci. Reigning PAC Wrestler of the Week Sonnieboy Blanco (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) earned the final bonus points for the Presidents on the night when he pinned John Sims in 2:35 in Blanco's first action at 184 pounds this year.
 
The Rest: Alex Miller (Fredricksburg, Va./Riverbend) scored a six-point decision, 9-3 over Cam Cianci, in his season debut at 174 pounds, while Nick Kumburis (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) clinched the match with a 9-4 heavyweight decision over Alexander Streich. William Oberschelp (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) nearly clinched the bout at 197 pounds, but fell by a 3-2 margin.
 
What's Next: The Presidents will travel to Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday, Jan. 21 for the Si Ostrach Meet at Case Western Reserve. W&J will wrestle Muskingum at 12:00 p.m., before facing host CWRU and John Carroll in a tri-match at 3:00 p.m.
