BRADFORD, Pa. -- Both Washington & Jefferson swimming & diving teams earned their first wins of the 2018-19 season today in a road meet against Pitt-Bradford, as the men earned a 110-72 victory and the women won 75-49.
Multiple Presidents excelled in today's win. On the men's side, four W&J swimmers won multiple races. Senior
Zach Lauer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) led the way, taking both the 100 (1:00.18) and 200 (2:04.44) backstroke events.
In their first collegiate team win, freshmen
Dean Kralic (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside),
Andrew Ivory (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars), and
Colin Higinbotham (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) also picked up multiple victories. Kralic won both the 100 (57.10) and 500 (5:19.61) butterfly events. Ivory took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.47) and the 200 individual medley (2:12.71). Higinbotham won the 50 free with a time of 23.11 and the 100 free with a mark of 53.02.
The men also took first in the 400 medley relay, with Lauer, Ivory, Kralic, and Higinbotham making up the triumphant team.
For the women,
Kimber Randolph (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) went down as the Presidents' lone double winner. Randolph took first in both the 200 butterfly (2:39.67) and the 200 IM (2:29.58).
Kiera MacWhinnie (South Portland, Maine/Waynflete School),
Marissa Whitby (Los Angeles, Calif./Eagle Rock), and
Kaitlyn Ewing (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) also earned wins today. MacWhinnie won the 200 back (2:33.57), Whitby took the 50 free (35.70), and Ewing came out on top of the 1650 freestyle (23:27.38). MacWhinnie, Whitby, Ewing, and Randolph also combined to win both the 400 medley relay (5:11.33) and the 400 freestyle relay (4:42.67).
Both W&J squads will return to PAC action on Saturday, Dec. 1, for a road 1 p.m. meet against Saint Vincent.
