Wrestling earns 43-9 victory over PAC rival Waynesburg


WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College wrestling team rolled to a 43-9 victory over a shorthanded Waynesburg University squad in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match Thursday evening at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. 

Freshmen filled seven of the 10 starting spots for the Presidents during the conference dual win. W&J improves to 1-0 in PAC duals and 2-2 overall. Waynesburg drops to 0-1 in conference duals and 2-7 overall. 

Tyler Ratledge (Houston, Del./Lake Forest) opened the match by picking up a win by forfeit at 125 pounds. Hunter Swedish (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) scored early and often in his match to secure a 26-11 tech. fall victory over Damion Finnegan in the 133-pound bout. the 

Jaizik Sanabria (Solomons, Md./Paxtuxent) helped W&J continue its dominance, as he followed with a tech. fall of his own at 141 pounds. Sanabria logged an 18-3 victory over Esdras Castillo to boost W&J's lead to 16-0. Adam Zerbee (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) extended the W&J lead to 19-0 with a 13-7 decision over Kyle Hinerman in the 149-pound match. 

Following a Waynesburg win by decision at 157, Seth Finnigan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) notched a win by forfeit at 165 pounds to strengthen the W&J lead to 25-3. 

Jaden Datz (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Southmoreland) continued his strong senior season, as he made quick work of William Simpson at 174 pounds. Datz pinned Simpson in just 1:41 to give the Presidents a 31-3 edge. 

Brayden Roscosky (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) and Alex Donahue (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) earned wins by forfeit at 184 and 197, respectively. Waynesburg claimed the final six points with a fall at 285. 

W&J hosts the Jim White Duals on Saturday, Jan. 22. The Presidents will face Hiram (10 a.m.), Ohio Wesleyan (11:30 a.m.) and Alderson Broaddus (1 p.m.) during the event which will be held in the Ross Recreation Center. No outside fans will be permitted to attend the event. W&J students will be the only ones permitted as spectators.
