Nick Daza to serve as Intern Assistant Coach for W&J wrestling

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College wrestling program has announced that Nick Daza will serve as its Intern Assistant Coach for the 2022-23 season.

He attended South Brunswick High School in New Jersey where he was a District Champion, three-time region qualifier and two-time county all-star. After graduating, he committed to wrestle at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. While at Muhlenberg, Daza was an NCAA Scholar All-American. Following his time at Muhlenberg, he competed overseas and placed third at the Copa Sparta Invitational in Puerto Rico.

"If our wrestlers take the time to get coached by him they will learn a lot," head coach Sonnie Blanco stated. "I'm really happy to have him here. I know his character and work ethic. Both of those traits will serve our guys well."

At Muhlenberg, he majored in Political Science with a double minor in Business and Religion Studies. Upon graduating from college, he served as a volunteer coach at Muhlenberg and founded a non-profit to help provide opportunities to wrestlers from underserved communities. Daza was born in Bogota, Colombia and immigrated to the United States with his parents at three years old.

"Wrestling changed my life and provided me with the opportunity to be a first generation college graduate and make my family proud," Daza said. "I know I wouldn't be the person I am today without it and that's why I am so passionate about giving back to the sport."

W&J opens the 2022-23 season with the Lycoming Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 6.
