Men's Swimming & Diving ready to compete at 2022 PAC Championships

The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will begin Thursday morning and run through Saturday night.

The conference championships will return to Grove City College and the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool. Longnecker Pool has been the home of the league's swimming and diving championships since 1990.

"Our men's team is tapered and ready to compete to the best of their abilities at the 2022 Men's PAC Championships. We are feeling confident in our chances to earn as many season-best and personal-best times as possible this week because of the hard-work that was put in the pool and weight room," said head coach Matt Rochna. "The men finished the dual meet season with a 5-3 record, our first winning season since the 14'-15' campaign. We know that the guys will give everything they have at this meet, especially our five seniors. We will be cheering them on as hard as we can as they swim their final races for the red and black."

W&J finished with a 5-3 overall record and a 3-2 dual meet mark against PAC competition in 2021-22. The Presidents defeated Saint Vincent, Chatham and Bethany in PAC dual meets. The Presidents finished in fourth place at last year's PAC Championships. Colin Higinbotham (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) and Nathan Smith (Fort Defiance, Va./Fort Defiance) both earned All-PAC Second Team designation for their efforts at PACs a season ago.

Smith was W&J's top overall scorer at PACs with 45 points and had the Presidents' best individual finish and three top-six finishes. He took second in the 100 yard backstroke with a personal-best time of 53.50. He finished fourth in the 200 yard backstroke with a season-best 2:01.16 and was sixth in the 100 yard butterfly (54.82). Higinbotham earned All-PAC Second Team status for the second-straight season with a trio of podium appearances at PACs. Higinbotham took fifth in the 100 butterfly (53.48) and sixth in the 50 yard freestyle (22.40) and the 100 yard freestyle (49.13). He totaled 40 points toward the Presidents' team score at PACs.

This year's championships are being conducted on consecutive weekends in February using the NCAA's three-day, common-site program: the women competed Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 10-12, with the men scheduled to compete Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 17-19. All preliminary swimming sessions will begin at 11 a.m. each day, with all finals sessions beginning at 6 p.m. each day. The 1-meter and 3-meter diving events (11 dives in preliminaries, 6 dives in finals) will occur on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, after the preliminary swimming sessions have concluded. The annual senior recognition celebrations will begin at 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

Spectators: Student-athletes on each program's roster will be allowed two spectators per session. Spectators must be listed on each school's spectator list. Spectators will be issued wristbands at check-in prior to each session. Check-in will take place at the top balcony entrance of the Longnecker Competition Pool, located in the Physical Learning Center, with entry to the building one hour prior to each session.

Masking: There is no campus-wide masking mandate at Grove City.

Admission: There will be no admission charged at this year's PAC Swimming & Diving Championships.

Heat sheets: Printed heat sheets will not be available on-site. They will be accessible on the Meet Mobile App.
