Jaden Datz advances into 165-pound semifinals at NCAA Division III Southeast Regional



WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Senior wrestler Jaden Datz (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Southmoreland) recorded a pair of victories Friday to advance into the semifinal round at 165 pounds at the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional. The two-day event is being hosted by Lycoming University. 

W&J is currently in 12th place among 20 schools in the team standings at the event. 

Datz is the only unbeaten President after day one. After receiving a bye, the senior defeated Frank Gill (Thiel) by a 10-3 decision to advance into the quarterfinals. Datz then registered an 8-4 victory by decision over Jack Campbell (Roanoke). Datz will face off with Alex Turley of Averett in the semifinal round. Turley advanced into the semifinals with a pair of falls. The winner of the semifinal bout clinches a spot at Nationals. The loser will have to wrestle back with a chance to qualify if they finish third.  

Logan Marko (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central), Brayden Roscosky (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) and Alex Donahue (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) all remain alive at their respective weight classes heading into day two. 

Marko went 2-1 at 157 pounds. The junior received a bye before beating Robert Lawlor of Alvernia by a 3-2 decision to advance to the quarterfinals. Marko suffered a setback, losing by fall to Eric Hutchinson of York in the quarters. He responded with a 14-5 major decision victory over Jalen Cornelius of Shenandoah to advance on to Saturday. 

Roscosky went 2-1 at 184 pounds during Friday's round of competition. The freshman advanced into the quarterfinals following a 5-1 decision over Sam Slate of Ferrom. After dropping a 6-4 decision in quarterfinals, Roscosky beat Christopher Richardson of Delaware Valley by a 6-4 score in consolations.

Donahue put together a 3-1 day at 197 pounds. Donahue earned a pair of wins by decision to advance to the quarterfinals. He topped Jackson Shumate of Roanoke by an 8-2 secore before edging Braydon Herbster of rival Thiel by a 5-4 score. Donahue dropped a tough 7-6 decision to Cameron Butka of Wilkes in the quarters. He then won by fall over Max Steele of Greensboro College in consolations to move into Saturday's session.
