CANTON, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving team completed a busy weekend Saturday when they concluded competition at the Malone University Invitational. The three-day event was held in Canton, Ohio.
Logan Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) earned the title in a loaded field in the 100 Breaststroke. Marks swam to the top time of 57.03 in the event. His time was just .15 seconds off the school record time. Marks finished sixth in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:17.13.
Nathaniel Harden (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield Area) placed sixth in the 100 Breaststroke. The freshman logged a lifetime-best time of 1:00.98 in the prelims of the event. He then raced to a time of 1:01.09 in the finals.
Will Angus (Grafton, W.Va. / Grafton) put together a strong effort in the one-meter dives. The freshman totaled a score of 276.10 to place second in the event. Angus was also runner-up in the three-meter dives with a score of 261.45.
Luna Balzano (El Portal, Fla. / Broward Virtual School) earned a first-place finish in the 200 Fly. Balzano touched the wall with a time of 2:18.97. That time was better than four seconds faster than her closest competitor in a field that featured several Division II swimmers.
Sophia Garrett (Cincinnati, Ohio / Saint Ursula Academy) notched top five finishes in both the 100 Back and 200 Back. The first-year collegiate swimmer recorded a time of 1:02.76 in the 100. Garrent went for a time of 2:20.40 in the 200 Back.
The women's 200 Free Relay team finished eighth. The quartet of
Morgan Baughman (West Newton, Pa. / Mount Pleasant),
Amanda Graves (Irwin, Pa. / Penn Trafford), Garrett and Balzano finished with a time of 1:44.69 in the event. Balzano recorded a time of 25.71 during the anchor leg.
Balzano added an eighth-place finish in the 100 Fly. Balzano posted a time of 1:02.69.
