Swimming & Diving completes Thursday session at 2024 PAC Championships


GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving programs continued competition at the 2024 Presidents' Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday.
 
Logan Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) posted the top finish for the Presidents during Thursday's swimming finals. Logan Marks went for a time of 2:01.61 in the 200 IM to place fifth overall in the event. 
 
Aiden Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) joined his brother in recording a top eight finish. Aiden Marks placed eighth in the 50 Free with a time of 22.28.  
 
Luna Balzano (El Portal, Fla. / Broward Virtual School) made the A final and finished eighth overall in the Women's 50 Free. Balzano touched the wall with a time of 25.94. Her teammate, Morgan Baughman (West Newton, Pa./Mount Pleasant) finished ninth in the event, with a top time of 26.23 in the B final of 50 Free.
 
Melvin McRae (Lillington, N.C. / Overhills) finished third in the three-meter diving. McRae logged a score of 336.85 in the three-meter dives.
 
The W&J men closed out the night with a strong showing in the 200 Free Relay. The quartet of Logan Marks, Andrew Killen (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Carlynton), Dan Jeffries (Irwin, Pa. / Hempfield Area) and Aiden Marks compiled a time of 1:29.01. 
 
Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio / St. Charles Prep) posted the top time in the B Final of the 500 Free. Miller's time of 5:01.06 put him ninth overall. 
 
Maddie Malone (Charlottesville, Va. / Monticello) was 11th in the 200 IM on the women's side of the ledger. Malone recorded a time of 2:26.33. Taylor Newton (Olyphant, Pa. / Scranton Prep) was 14th overall as the lone women's competitor in the 500 Free. Newton logged a time of 5:45.34. 
 
Following Thursday's events, the W&J women sit in fifth place of eight competing teams. The Presidents are in fourth of six teams on the men's side. 
 
Friday's action resumes at 10 a.m. with preliminaries. The preliminaries of the men's 11-dive, 1-meter competition will get underway at 2 p.m. with the swimming finals beginning at 6 p.m. Friday's session features competition in the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay.
