Joyce, W&J sit in second place entering final round of PAC Women's Golf Championships


BOARDMAN, Ohio – Washington & Jefferson College sophomore Megan Joyce (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) led the Washington & Jefferson College women's golf team during the third round of the PAC Championships at Mill Creek Golf Course on Friday. 
 
Joyce shot a seven-over 77 Friday and has compiled a three-round total of 239. Joyce remains in second place overall and trails Westminster's Sierra Richard by five strokes entering the final 18 holes on Saturday. 
 
W&J entered the day with an eight-shot lead in the team standings. The Presidents fell to second place after carding a combined team score of 332. W&J has a 54-hole team score of 1005. 
 
Westminster, who shot a 319 on Friday, leads W&J by five strokes entering the final round, as they have a team score of 1000. Thiel College remains a distant third with a team score of 1170. 
 
Dinah Bailey (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) remains in third place. Bailey shot a round of 85 Friday. Bailey has a combined 54-hole score of 250. 
 
Christina McGinnis (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) sits in sixth place with a combined score of 257. McGinnis shot an 83 during her round Friday. 
 
MacKenzie Schmeltz (Edwardsburg, Mich./Saint Joseph) logged a score of 87 on Friday. Schmeltz has a total of 259 and is in seventh place. 
 
Lauren Tekely (Glendale, W.Va./John Marshall) shot a round of 90 on Friday. This was Tekely's first round of competition in the 2023-24 PAC Championships. 
 
The final two rounds of the 72-hole championship are being played on Mill Creek's North Course. The fall's 36-hole event that was hosted by the Avalon Golf & Country Club. The women played in the fall at Avalon at Squaw Creek in Vienna.
 
Westminster is aiming for its sixth-straight PAC title while W&J is hoping to capture its first PAC women's title since 2016. 
 
Action gets underway on the North Course on Saturday at 10 a.m. W&J golfers begin their rounds at 11:30 a.m. when Tekely tees off.
