LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington & Jefferson College wrestling team opened action in 2025 with two losses at the Crytzer Duals.
 
Washington & Lee 38, W&J 9
The Presidents picked up three victories in their first dual of the afternoon against the Generals, all by decision.
 
In his first competition since October, Casey Smith (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) logged W&J's first victory of the evening with a triple overtime period win by decision over W&L's William Flanagan at the 157-pound weight class. After outlasting Flanagan in the opening overtime stalemates, Smith scored a single point in the sixth period to secure the 2-1 win.
 
Jaden Fields (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) picked up a 5-0 win by decision over Evan Surmay in the 184-pound weight class, taking on three more team points for W&J.
 
Christian McChesney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg-Salem) logged the final victory of the dual for the Presidents in the 285-pound heavyweight class. McChesney logged his triumph over Carter Stack of W&L by a 17-10 decision.
 
McDaniel 33, W&J 21
Josh Smith (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) kicked off the wins for W&J in a close loss, winning by a 10-5 decision in the 133-pound weight class over Romeo Tsai.
 
Hunter Swedish (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) followed that up with a win of his own and first on the day in the 141-pound weight class. Swedish won by fall (2:34) over McDaniel's Justin Shiflett in the first period.
 
Joshua Searle (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek Central) also picked up a win by fall in the 174-pound weight class over Soren Wynn (4:58). McChesney wrapped the wins for W&J in the 285-pound heavyweight class with a victory by medical forfeit.
