A three-time NCAA Division III Track & Field All-American, Cheyenne Mangold ’14 cemented her legacy as one of the top women’s athletes in school history.
Mangold began her W&J career as a two-sport athlete as she played soccer in the fall before joining track & field. Her soccer impact was felt immediately as she totaled eight points (2g, 4a) as a freshman during W&J’s 2010 PAC championship season. A native of San Antonio, Texas,
Mangold was a two-time PAC team champion that year as she helped the women’s track & field squad capture its third-ever outdoor conference title as she was a part of the triumphant 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. Her speed and offensive ability was on display the next soccer year as she finished second on the team with 10 goals.
After deciding to concentrate solely on the track, Mangold exploded onto the national scene. As a junior, Mangold finished in third place in the 400-meter hurdles and fifth in the 400 meters at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship meet. The impressive feat was amplified by the fact that these two events were contested only an hour apart that day.
The three-time PAC Track & Field MVP followed up a year later and finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles at 2014 national meet during her senior year to pick up her third All-America honor. Mangold still owns school records in the 200 meters indoors (26.04), 400 meters indoors (57.66), 4x200 relay in doors (1:47.77), 200 meters outdoors (25.50), 400-meter hurdles outdoors (1:00.18), 4x400 relay outdoors (3:58.04), and 4x800 relay outdoors (10:12.21).
After graduating from W&J, Mangold returned to Texas and attended medical school at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock. While working towards her M.D., she also obtained a master’s degree in Public Health. After completing medical school, Mangold returned San Antonio where she completed residency in Pediatrics, then a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. She continues to reside in San Antonio with her husband and is an attending physician in the PICU.
