Matthew Rudzki ’08 finished his career as one of the top distance runners in Presidents’ Athletic Conference history. Rudzki celebrated two PAC cross country individual championships, including his sophomore season in which he became the first runner in school history to claim an individual cross country title.
That same year, he earned All-Region laurels with a then-school record 28th place regional finish. Rudzki earned five PAC Cross Country Runner of the Week awards throughout his career.
As a senior, Rudzki earned his second PAC championship, besting a 96-runner field with an 8K time of 26:32. Rudzki was also the conference runner-up during his freshman season.
A member of the PAC 60th Anniversary Team, Rudzki also excelled for the track & field team and was the 2005 conference 10,000-meter (32:58) champion. A year later, he won both the 5,000- (16:15.37) and 10,000- (33:46.01) meter PAC championship events.
After his senior year, Rudzki was honored with the Walter C. Cooper Senior Scholar-Athlete Award as voted on by the W&J coaching staff.
Following graduation from W&J, Matt taught English in Voecklabruck, Austria, on a fellowship through the Austrian-American Educational Commission as administered by the Fulbright Program. After returning to Pittsburgh, Rudzki matriculated at the Duquesne University School of Law where he served as a research assistant to Dr. Kirk W. Junker in Cologne, Germany, for three summers, and graduated and passed the Pennsylvania Bar Exam in 2013.
Rudzki presently practices law at Giuffre Law Office and has been twice named as a Pennsylvania Rising Star by Super Lawyers. In 2018, Matt took office as Sharpsburg Borough Mayor, after serving on Council since 2011. In addition, he serves as chair of The Valley Democratic Committee, past chair of the Sharpsburg Democratic Committee, and as a board member to the St. Juan Diego Parish Pastoral Council, the Sharpsburg Historical Commission, the Sharpsburg Neighborhood Organization, the Fox Chapel District Association, and the Volunteers of America: All of Us Care Advisory Council.
