Eric Field ’05 graduated as the all-time leading tackler in Washington & Jefferson College football history with 348. To that point, no defender racked up more tackles than Field in 114 years of Presidents’ football.
Field was a valuable contributor as a freshman, compiling 50 tackles and two sacks for an 11-1 W&J team which earned a 24-21 victory over Western Maryland in the NCAA Division III playoffs. A year later, Field helped W&J earn another NCAA playoff victory after knocking off Christopher Newport 24-10.Field had seven tackles and recovered a fumble for a defense that allowed only 193 total yards.
Field produced a team-high 118 tackles for the 2003 Presidents, which won an ECAC Bowl Game with a 41-19 win at Wilkes. He returned an interception 72 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and led W&J with 13 stops. The 2004 Presidents ripped off a school-record, 12-straight wins to start the season, including two NCAA playoff victories.
Field finished with 98 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Field’s career tackle record stood for 19 seasons and he was a three-time All-PAC selection. He helped the Presidents claim three PAC Championships.
Upon graduation from W&J, Field began working at Schneider Downs in downtown Pittsburgh. After two years, he got engaged to his wife and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he worked two more years as a CPA in public accounting. In 2009, he attended the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and began working as a Special Agent outside of Chicago, Illinois, working White Collar and was a member of the SWAT Team. He was promoted to FBI Headquarters to work in the Public Corruption Unit in 2016, where he oversaw all corruption cases in eight field offices. In 2018, he became a Supervisory Special Agent in St. Louis, focusing on Public Corruption, Civil Rights and Cyber Investigations. He worked in St. Louis until returning to Cincinnati, where he currently is focused on White Collar investigations.
