Washington & Jefferson College Athletics

Shaun Pfeil '07 started every game of his career for Washington & Jefferson College and ushered in an era of championship baseball for the Presidents.  A 2005 ABCA/Rawlings All-American, Pfeil graduated as the program’s career leader in hits (214), at-bats (585) and runs batted in (138).  He also set a school record after starting all 175 games W&J played during his four years and is sixth in the school record books with 36 doubles.

A three-time All-Mideast Region third baseman, Pfeil owned a .362 career batting average and scored 120 runs.  The Presidents collected a 119-56 record during his playing career and the team claimed three Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships.

Pfeil also led W&J to three ECAC Division III South Championship Tournament postseason appearances, two of which W&J won for the first postseason championships in team history.    

As a senior, Pfeil batted .349 with 34 runs batted in.  He collected 10 extra-base hits and held a .951 fielding percentage with only seven errors in 143 chances.  

In 2004, Pfeil ranked as the 19th-toughest player to strike out in NCAA Division III.  That same freshman season, Pfeil produced the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning of a 6-2 victory over Waynesburg in the PAC Tournament championship game.  That win gave the Presidents their fifth overall conference title, including the first since the 1997 season.

During his All-America sophomore campaign, Pfeil ranked 35th in the nation in batting average (.432) with a then-school record 70 base hits and compiled a .580 slugging percentage.  

After graduation, he spent three seasons as an assistant coach under Jeff Mountain and helped guide the Presidents to the program’s first-ever NCAA Division III Regional appearance in 2009 in Salisbury, Maryland. 

Pfeil resides in Sidney, Ohio, with his wife (Amanda) and two daughters (Harper; Hadley).  He works for Whirlpool Corporation.
